Director of Music  -  Dr. Laura Hare McClure

Greetings!

I have been the music director at Erindale since 2020 (signing the contract just days before lockdown began). In that time, I have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful musicians at Erindale. Two major highlights of my time here so far include the Lessons and Carols service led by the Senior Choir and several excellent readers on December 24, 2023, and the cantata "By Heaven's Light", which the Senior Choir (supplemented with extra singers and supported by two readers) presented on December 14, 2025.

My background is in both music and theology. I began studying the piano at the age of four and joined my first choir at five. I have been accompanying singers, instrumentalists, musical theatre groups, and congregations since I was twelve. I have an ARCT in Piano Performance and have studied the organ under the internationally-acclaimed organist Sarah Svendsen. I also have an M.A. in Theology from Knox College at the Toronto School of Theology and a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from the University of Toronto.

In addition to my role as Music Director at EUC, I am also Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto, teaching Biblical Hebrew and other courses related to the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament).

My husband Andrew and our three children are also regular attendees at Erindale and you will frequently see the children running around the sanctuary like it's their second home. In my free time, I enjoy jigsaw puzzles, board games, and reading (especially history, fantasy, and science fiction).

Everyone is encouraged to join in Erindale’s music ministry in whatever way you feel inspired. The choir and the band welcome all — no musical experience necessary. If you want to share your musical gifts in other ways, that’s wonderful too. Let us worship God together through music!
